Tro Trwy’r Fro!

Tro trwy’r Fro is a new and exciting project that gives the residents of Bridgend County the opportunity to re-discover their surroundings. These unique tours are an opportunity for people to learn more about their local area and its history, share personal information, history, stories and memories of the area through the medium of Welsh. Our guides are volunteers and we offer anyone who’s interested in sharing their local knowledge with others the opportunity of organising and leading their own tour through the medium o Welsh.

The project started on the 18th of July 2009, when a group went on a historical tour of the Llynfi Valley with Brian Roderick. This tour was a great success and everyone said they had enjoyed learning more about the industrial history of the area.

“Our guide was excellent. Even though I am originally from Maesteg, the tour was very interesting. I’m looking forward for the next trip!” Yvonne Matthews, Porthcawl.

In the second of a series of short tours across the county, Gareth Huw Ifan took us around the area of Llangynwyd, where we learnt more about the area’s history and folklore.

Menter Bro Ogwr will be running these and some new tours during 2010 so make sure you keep an eye out for more information.

We are looking for volunteers to lead our tours. Have you got an idea for a tour? Would you like to lead a tour in your area? If you are interested in organising a tour with Menter Bro Ogwr, please contact Marged to discuss your ideas further!
